Let me begin by thanking GOD Almighty for everything and welcome you all most warmly to this special session of today’s programme of events during which the 5th Chairman of the Chapter will be enthroned and decorated with the insignia of office.

2.Permit me this auspicious opportunity to express my profound appreciation to the entire membership  of our Chapter for entrusting me with the task of providing leadership to this body during 2016/2017 Chairmanship year.

I recall that on Thursday,28 July,2016,My election as  the Chairman of this Chapter was made easier by the excellence degree of cooperation, unflinching support and encouragement I received from the executive committee and members of the Chapter. I am indeed grateful to you all.

Major Achievements

In my inaugural address as the 4th Chairman of this great Chapter,  I promised to positively impact the chapter activities and achieve   the aims/objectives of the Institute’s Bye-Law for District  Societies/Chapters.

The following model achievements are clear testimonies of the fulfillments of these promises.

(a)              to support the members and students within the District as defined under section 1.3 of the bye Law;

(b)              to Improve technical skill and competence of members and ICAN students in the Lagos State Public Service in general.

(c)              to hold regular meetings of the Society and organise training, and workshops for members

(d)             to disseminate other information of interest to members, and ensure that credit hours are earned by members for attendance at ICAN accredited programs.

(e)              Sustainability of already established financial assistance to newly qualified members for induction purposes.

(f)               Executive committee of the Chapter  paid courtesy visits to the office of the Head of Service, State Accountant-General/Permanent Secretary (STO), State Auditor-General and Auditor-General for Local Government to mention but few.

MEMBERSHIP

The membership of the Chapter has increase tremendously in the last one year. This was due to the admission of newly qualified members and  Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) staff who joined the Chapter lately. However, efforts are in top gear to grow the membership number from other government MDAs.

       FINANCE

The EXCO during the year created Finance and General Purpose committee saddle with the primary assignment to create a robust members database and prepare demand notice that will show members financial status as part of our revenue derive from Members’ annual dues.

The training programmes and consultancy services are being reviewed to boost the revenue of the Chapter.

On the payment of ICAN annual subscription, the State Treasury Office (STO) has paid members subscriptions to date. However, to our members from the Local Government Council, LCDA and related agencies, their issues are still on the front burner of the EXCO.

INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY (ICT)

The good news is that our website icanlagpubservice.scom is still up and running. It is loaded with Professional, Educative and latest technical information that will enhance member’s skill and knowledge. Please avail yourself the golden opportunity provided by the Chapter.

CHALLENGES: It is obvious the most members were unable to fulfill their financial obligations due the economic recession facing the country.More so, members’ punctuality and attendance at general meetings is a challenge this year. Please let be more committed to the course beyond this annual lecture.

APPRECIATION: Let me end this address by noticing once again that the significant progress recorded during this year bear eloquent testimony to the spirit of teamwork and the cooperation I received from the EXCO and members in general.

Above all, I give thanks to GOD almighty for everything.          I also seize this opportunity to specially appreciate our own the life patron, benefactor, His Excellency, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode (FCA) the Governor of Lagos State for his supports to the Chapter from inception to date. May you shadow never grow less Sir. Amiiin.  Itesiwaju Ilu Eko lojewa logun.

I also want to appreciate my ‘Chairman Emeritus’ Mr. Sakirudeen Odusanya FCA, I benefited immensely from his wealth of experience, believe in the chapter and approval to use  his Office Conference room for EXCO meetings.  My appreciation goes to our revered past chairman and Chairperson for their supports at all times. I will like to appreciate our own Mr. Jimoh Niyi(ACA) and other staffs of Lagos State Printing Corporation for all the printing works produce for us.

Permit me to mention my dedication to this chapter in particular and ICAN in general in unwavering. I will continue to make my time, intellect and other resources available for the growth of the chapter noble objective by GOD’s grace amin.

This valedictory address will not be complete if I do not publicly appreciate the patience, love and understanding of my best friend, lover, jewel of inestimable value and darling wife Muinat Folashade for prayers and supports for me.             I also appreciate my wonderful children Gbemisola,           Engr. Olanrewaju, Titilola (ACA) and Hakeem (jnr) for their understanding and prayers.

Finally, let me admit that in the process of trying to improve the chapter, some decisions were taken which some members disagreed with and considered unacceptable. I must say that such disagreement actually enriched the quality of our decisions. This was done with the supreme desire to protect members interest.

To this end, I think I have done my little bit to better the Chapter in the last one year.

Once again, thank you for listening and God bless you all.
